O governo de Bangladesh pediu à Índia a extradição da ex-primeira-ministra do país Sheikh Hasina. Ela foi condenada à pena de morte por crimes contra a humanidade. O tribunal de Bangladesh concluiu que Hasina deu ordens diretas para que a polícia reprimisse com violência os protestos estudantis no país no ano passado. Segundo as Nações Unidas, ao menos 1,4 mil pessoas morreram vítimas das forças policiais.
Hasina fugiu de Bangladesh para a Índia em agosto do ano passado, logo após a onda de protestos. A ex-primeira-ministra afirmou que o julgamento contra ela teve motivações políticas. O líder do partido de Hasina prometeu uma paralisação geral amanhã contra o veredito.
As Nações Unidas disseram que a condenação representa um marco importante para as vítimas, mas discordou da sentença de morte.
