OMS confirma 169 casos de hepatite de origem desconhecida

A Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS) confirmou, neste sábado (23), o surgimento de 169 casos de casos de hepatite aguda grave de origem desconhecida. A maioria das notificações está na Europa e envolve bebês, crianças e adolescentes entre 1 mês e 16 anos de idade. Até o momento, uma morte foi confirmada.
De acordo com a OMS, foram notificados 114 casos da doença no Reino Unido; 13 na Espanha; 12 em Israel; nove nos Estados Unidos; seis na Dinamarca; cinco na Irlanda; quatro na Holanda; quatro na Itália; dois na Noruega; dois na França; um na Romênia e um na Bélgica.
Os sintomas da doença incluem elevada taxa de enzimas hepáticas, vômito, diarreia e dores abdominais. Entre os casos registrados, 17 crianças (cerca de 10% do total) necessitaram de transplante de fígado após contraírem a doença.
No comunicado distribuído à imprensa, a OMS declarou que está monitorando a situação e afirmou que não é preciso restringir viagens e o comércio com o Reino Unido e os demais países que tiveram casos confirmados.
